New Books and Movies to Dread in July
So many movies and books, so little time! Here are the horror releases for July that Iām looking forward to the most!
Horror Movies in Theaters in July
MaXXXine, July 5Ā
X wasnāt my kind of horror - Iām not really a slasher girlie - but itās undeniably a good movie. And who doesnāt love Mia Goff? I have no doubt that this final installment of the trilogy will live up to its predecessors.
Longlegs, July 11
Trailers for this one have been pretty relentless, so Iāve been looking forward to it for a while. Iām getting Silence of the Lambs vibes from the synopsis. Definitely a must-see for me this month!
Oddity, July 19Ā
This one looks so creepy! The story follows a curio shop owner who acquires a life-sized wooden mannequin while mourning the death of her sister. The trailer is pretty vague, but Oddity was well-received at the South by Southwest and Overlook film festivals. Iām guessing this will have a limited release in theaters, so hopefully it comes to Shudder soon!
Twisters, July 19
Twister is right up there with Jaws as a summer horror/action blockbuster. Iām still sore that Universal Studios took out the Twister ride so they could put in the soulless and much less iconic āRip, Ride, Rocketā roller coaster.
Do I think Twisters is going to live up to the hype? No. But it does make me want to rewatch Twister.
Also, I live in the Midwest and weāve had higher than average tornado activity this year, so the movie feels very timely.
Horror Books Releasing in July:
Midnight Rooms by Donyae Coles, July 2
Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle, July 9
The Building That Wasnāt by Abigail Miles, July 16
This one is giving me vibes a la The Last House on Needless Street and The September House. Super looking forward to this one!
I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones, July 16
Stay on the Line by Clay McLeod Chapman, July 30
This one looks super duper spooky. In the wake of a catastrophic hurricane, the residents of a coastal town take solace in a mysterious phone booth that receives calls from those they believe perished in the storm.Ā
Thatās what I found exciting and notable for the month of July! What horror releases are you looking forward to? Leave a comment and let me know!
